Sheriff snow safety

Fayette County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday the activation of the Winter Care Program. Call 859-252-1771 and ask for “Winter Care” services, including:

  • Safe transportation to + from work for healthcare workers
  • Assistance picking up prescription medication
  • Wellness checks
  • Transportation to shelters
  • Coat + blanket distribution

Protecting people

The Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention’s 2024-25 Winter Weather Plan includes detailed information on overnight shelters, daytime warming centers, and transportation. Services are available for youth, adults, and families in the Lexington area.

Protecting pets

If you haven’t already, Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control urges you to bring your pets inside. To request a crate or report an animal welfare concern, call 859-255-9033.

  • Warm up post-walk by wiping your pet’s paws with a damp towel to remove salt + prevent irritation
  • Keep anti-freeze out of reach as pets are attracted to the bright color + sweet taste
  • Heading out? Double check there aren’t any cold critters under the hood before you drive off

Planning for the plow

The city’s public safety divisions are operating on a 24-hour schedule through Thursday. Snow removal crews are serving in alternating, 12-hour shifts.
