Local legends

Goodfellas , Two locations
Arguably the closest thing to a slice of New York pie, this pizza joint is the place to be. Head to the Distillery District for a sit-down, date night vibe or swing by its OG spot on 110 N. Mill St. to grab a to-go pie. City Editor Aayat recommends going with a classic slice of cheese + breadstick (don’t forget the garlic sauce.)

Puccini’s , Two locations
There’s something for everyone at this regional-local spot that offers everything from pizzas to make-your-own calzones.

Joe Bologna’s , 120 W. Maxwell St.
Lexingtonians know that a breadstick from Joe B.'s is a rite of passage , but its pizza is legendary on its own for a reason. Choose from round or Sicilian-style crust for a truly unique ex-pie-rience.

Think outside the pizza box

Pearl’s , 133 N. Limestone
Trendy and chic, this downtown treasure offers freshly made wood-fired pies — with an emphasis on seasonal, locally-grown ingredients. Plus, any pizza can be made completely plant-based.

Rise Up! Pizza , 101 W. Loudon Ave. #112
You’ll be giving a standing ovation when you try a slice of this pie. Swing by for traditional and vegan pizza options before perusing shops at Greyline Station.

Lexington-style

Rolling Oven , 725 National Ave.
Sometimes, you just have to pour a bag of Grippo’s over your pizza — or at least that’s how Rolling Oven rolls. Venture out to Mirror Twin Brewing Co. or catch its 20-ft shipping container food truck at various events around town.

PieTana , 210 Rosemont Garden
While you brainstorm what Lexington in a pizza would be, PieTana is busy making it a reality. Try out a beer cheese, hot brown-inspired, or Blue Door Smokehouse brisket-topped pizza.

Addie’s Pizza , 3195 Beaumont Center Cir., Ste. 110
The sister company to Whiskey Bear, this spot excels in wood fired pizzas with all of your favorite classics. Try The Low Down featuring a chipotle-honey tomato sauce, pineapple, and bourbon-smoked salt, or go classic with The O.G.

If you can’t take the wheat

Smashing Tomato , Two locations
This fresh, casual spot from the Bella Notte Restaurant Group is a great quick lunch spot with 6" personal pies all under $10 — and can be made with fresh, gluten-free dough.

Pies & Pints , 401 W. Main St., Ste. 106
The best part about this spot is that any specialty pizza can be made with gluten-free or cauliflower crust. Think: exploratory pies like street corn + tajin pie.

Old Chicago , 1924 Pavilion Way
We know this one is a chain, but we would be remiss to not include its countless gluten-friendly options. Order a Thai Pie with cauliflower crust pizza or get creative and build your own.

It’s delivery

Apollo Pizza , 1451 Leestown Rd.
Feed the whole family (and then some) with a 20" Wagon Wheel pie, with unique specialties like the Kentucky Hot Browne or the Mac Daddy.

Mad Mushroom , Two locations
Having a late night? Steamy, classic pizza and daily specials make for a college student’s dream.
