Mayor Linda Gorton, councilmembers, and other city officials recently broke ground on the new ~$24 million Senior & Therapeutic Recreation Center coming to Shillito Park in 2026.

“I am confident that this wonderful dual-purpose facility will serve as a model for excellence for years to come and will be an inclusive place where people can gather for enriching education, socialization, exercise, recreation and information,” said Councilmember Whitney Baxter, whose district includes the development.

Right now, city-hosted senior services are provided at the main campus off Richmond Road + three other satellite locations, while our therapeutic programs are hosted at different sites around the city. In 2026, the new 26,000-sqft building will bring more options under one roof.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Director of the Division of Aging and Disability Services Kristy Stambaugh said that according to Census data, for the first time in Fayette County’s history there will be more residents 65+ than those younger than 18.
