Last Call: 5 things to do in Lexington before summer ends

Summer isn’t over yet, and we’re here to help you check off the rest of your bucket list. From whitewater rafting to luxurious pool days, there’s an activity for everyone to finish the season strong.

In just a few short weeks, day-to-day routines will be back in full swing, and those summer bucket lists we swore we’d stick to? Forgotten.

The good news: there’s still time. Lexington has plenty of ways to help you check off those final “must-dos” before the summer ends.

Paddle down Elkhorn Creek

Canoe, kayak, or raft your way through Elkhorn Creek’s scenic bluegrass backdrop with Canoe Kentucky. Whether you go solo or with a group, Canoe Kentucky offers something for everyone — from lazy float trips and fishing spots to whitewater rafting and swimming holes perfect for cooling off.

Attend a free concert

Looking for a family-friendly activity before school starts? Look no further than Music at The Mansion. Catch Boogie G and the Titanics for the Friday, Aug. 15 session of the outdoor concert series, or check out one of the later dates. Bring your lawn chairs to kick back and relax, enjoy local vendors, and soak in the last bit of summer.

Pool day at The Kentucky Castle

It doesn’t get more royal than this: You can purchase a weekday poolside rental on the rooftop of The Kentucky Castle for $45, which includes two lounge chairs and an umbrella.

Test your knowledge at a local trivia night

The back-to-school season is the perfect time to brush up on your knowledge and enjoy some friendly competition. Trivia nights happen all over Lexington — one of our favorites is at Mirror Twin Brewing, which is every Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Enjoy the dog days of summer

Once a month, the City of Lexington hosts “Yappy Hours” at different dog parks around town. Locals can bring their pets to mingle while snacking on food, drinks, and frozen treats. There will also be live music and activities for guests and their dogs. This month’s Yappy Hour will be Aug. 27 at Coldstream Park from 6-8:30 p.m.
