Lexington signs deal to create a new regional business park in Berea

Designed to boost Central Kentucky’s economy, this multi-county business park aims to provide good jobs and tax revenue to Madison, Scott + Fayette counties.

The previously discussed regional business park has found a new home in Berea. The city of Lexington has signed an agreement with the city of Berea, and Madison + Scott counties to create the Central Kentucky Business Park Authority which will oversee a public multi-county business park.

Earlier this fall, a similar 500-acre project was announced in Scott County, but was voted down by Georgetown city council. The new proposed site will be located within the Menelaus Industrial Park — a 319-acre property currently owned by the Berea Industrial Development Authority. Per the deal, the Central Kentucky Business Park Authority would purchase the land.

“Regional economic development is a winner for everyone,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “When Central Kentucky’s economy is strengthened, we all benefit. This project will provide good jobs and tax revenue that will allow governments to make improvements.”

A total cost + timelines have not yet been announced.
