New park coming to Davis Bottom neighborhood

DAVIS PARK RENDERING

Lexington Parks & Recreation recently announced that a new park will be coming to Davis Bottom neighborhood just outside of downtown. Davis Park will be situated in the greenspace on the corner of Oliver Lewis Way + High Street.

This announcement helps continue the resurgence of the Davis Bottom neighborhood. “There is a rich history of sports and recreation at parks in this neighborhood + having flexibility at the park will allow for all sorts of neighborhood activities and gatherings to take place and enhance this area of downtown,” said Michelle Kosieniak, Superintendent of Planning & Design at Lexington Parks & Recreation.

While preliminary renderings have been released, Parks & Rec Information Office Supervisor Paul Hooper said there is a lot of flexibility based on the public’s priorities. That’s why they are asking for your feedback. You can fill out this survey to share their thoughts on amenities and recreation priorities you’d like to see at the park.

The oval lawn in the renderings is not a soccer-specific field. “It has the size to hold a full soccer field, but could be used for anything — concerts, ultimate frisbee, it’s flexible,” Paul said.

Here’s what you can expect

  • Playground area
  • Natural walking trail
  • Flexible green space
  • Parking lot

Lexington Parks & Recreation has hit the ground running in 2022. Just last month it announced the water play zone at Charles Young Park, and the creation of Davis Park is in line with its 10-Minute Walk Campaign.
