We’ve got all info you need to skip the line and save time while renewing your ID. | Photo via LEXtoday
We’ve talked about the new requirements + the Real ID deadline (reminder, it’s Wednesday, May 7), but thanks to some firsthand experience, we discovered three things about renewing your license that the state website can’t tell you.

1. Skip the line

The first step is to find an office and double check if they accept walk-ins. When you arrive, don’t just join the line, use your smartphone to scan the QR code near the front door to sign in + get a ticket number.

After entering your name, phone number, and purpose for visit, you’ll be prompted to return to your car + wait for a notification. When it’s your turn, you’ll receive a desk number to report to.

2. Keep your eyes open

If you are renewing your license or applying for a Real ID, residents now need to pass a vision screening. Pack your glasses or wear your contacts, and ask if you can join the line for a free vision screening while you wait for your number to be called.
