Is table tennis having a moment? Try it for yourself in Lexington

Move aside pickleball, there’s a new racket sport in town.

A table tennis tale is in the foreground, with a purple neon sign that says 'BOURBON' on the wall behind it. There are two long leather couches, and fake deer heads on the wall.

The nation’s collective interest in table tennis exists in a strange time loop: once every four years, as the Summer Olympic Games roll around, interest in the sport spikes.

Now, with the success of “Marty Supreme,” the game is gaining attention again — no Summer Games required. If you want to get ahead of the curve, grab a paddle and head to one of these local spots:

  • The best part of a new hobby? Community. That’s what awaits at the Lexington Table Tennis Club. Members meet three times per week, and the first session is free.
  • Once you’ve made a few friends, bring them to District 7 Social. Open until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights, this spot has ping pong fun, and food + drink options to boot.
  • The City of Lexington has a table in the game room at Dunbar Community Center. Heads up: You might want to call ahead first to make sure it’s available.
