Happy birthday to us.

Today is our first birthday here at LEXtoday — and we’ll cry if we want to — as we reflect on our favorite stories from the last 365 days + give you a personal invitation to our happy hour birthday event.

After all, we’ve come a long way since our first newsletter .

City Editor Aaron’s favorite stories:

  • Rocky the Dog | This story came to me from reader Jessica K. Rocky the Dog is a pet rock + neighborhood art piece that puts a smile on the face of all who cross his path.
  • Will Harbut and Man O’ War | History pieces are some of my favorite to write. Researching and writing about these local legends was an honor and a pleasure.
  • Leestown Coffee House | Lexington loves to support local. That’s just a fact. The owners of this coffee shop to a leap of faith to open their business, knowing that Lexington would show up to support them.

City Editor Molly’s favorite stories:

  • Be the Broker | I love dreaming up businesses in the available buildings around town — it was fun to learn that y’all do the same thing.
  • The Sorella Sisters | I really have loved all of the Q&As I’ve done, but getting a peek into the creative minds of Alma + Selma was just as sweet as their delicious gelato.
  • Hank the Horse | I spotted Hank at Joseph-Beth Bookseller’s once and of course, had to learn more. Like Lexington, his story + Tammi Jo Regan’s mission are so heart-warming and beautiful.

Aaron is a proud Kentuckian, father, and storyteller. His background began in documentary filmmaking, but he realized that the pen is mightier than the lens when he helped launch LEXtoday. When he’s not writing, you can find him exploring city parks with his family, or getting lost in the woods.
