The Arboretum, State Botanical Garden of Kentucky | A 100-acre garden on the University of Kentucky campus where you can wander winding paths, enjoy wildflowers, explore the Kentucky Children’s Garden, and learn about native plants in the “Walk Across Kentucky.”
Raven Run Nature Sanctuary | 734 acres of trails through woodlands, meadows, and streams; over 10 miles of paths to wander and lots of wildlife viewing. Free access.
Henry A. Tandy Centennial Park | A downtown park setting, often with events (Thursday Night Live, farmers’ market, and more.), nice place to stroll.
Eat
Lexington Farmers’ Market | Browse local produce, baked goods, and handmade foods. Partake in samples from various vendors and enjoy the lively atmosphere.
Bring Your Own Picnic | Pack a meal and enjoy it at the Arboretum, Raven Run, or one of Lexington’s many neighborhood parks.
Vine & Branch Wine | Free wine tastings every Friday from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Sample a variety of wines in a relaxed, welcoming setting on Southland Drive.
Seasonal
Halloween Festival & Thriller Parade | Downtown Lexington comes alive on Sunday, Oct. 26 with a parade, costumes, and the annual “Thriller” reenactment — all free to watch.
Fall Foliage Walks & Scenic Drives | Take in the autumn colors along Raven Run trails, the Arboretum paths, Old Frankfort Pike, or Catalpa Road in Chevy Chase. Fall foliage is expected to peak around Monday, October 27.
Cozy “Gilmore Girls” Rewatch | Snuggle up with a warm blanket, light a candle, and enjoy a cozy cup of your favorite warm beverage while binge-watching your favorite episodes.
Arts
UK Art Museum | Free admission museum on the University of Kentucky campus with rotating exhibitions, permanent collections, and free family days.
Lexington Art League at Loudoun House | Contemporary art exhibits in a historic mansion; hosts regular free gallery openings and community events.
Institute 193 | A small, free contemporary art gallery focusing on Southern and Appalachian artists — always changing and thought-provoking.
Kids
Lexington Public Library | Frequent free programs like Baby Storytime and Toddler Storytime (sing-along, reading, play), STEAM + Makerspace “Open Studio,” Preschool Storytime, Family Storytime, and more.
Kentucky Children’s Garden | A playful garden designed for kids to explore, dig, plant, and learn about nature. Admission is $4 per person, but children under 2 are free — and there are occasional community free days.
McConnell Springs Nature Preserve | Kids can explore natural springs, learn about local history through interpretive signage, and enjoy short, family-friendly trails.
