Are you interested in building a more resilient community? Good news, Lexington is asking for your input on how to create a more sustainable city as it revisits the Empower Lexington initiative.

What is Empower Lexington?

“Empower Lexington: a plan for a resilient community” is exactly as it reads. This plan — created by the Lexington-Fayette County Environmental Commission in 2012 — aims to bolster the city’s sustainability, resiliency, and environmental friendliness, all while supporting a stronger economy.

Through education, advocacy, and participation, the commission hopes to bring the government and community together to provide concrete, long-lasting solutions.

How to get involved

The original plan identifies specific goals and how the city can be improved in a way that supports energy efficiency and ethical development. Specifically, the plan covers six areas including:

  • Energy use + greenhouse gas emissions
  • Materials + resources
  • Natural systems
  • Transportation + land use
  • Quality of life
  • Water efficiency

The city is re-examining the plan and they want you, the community, to get involved. Register to attend a workshop at the Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center on Tuesday, July 11 at 6 p.m. where you can provide input on how to update and adapt the plan.

At the meeting, you’ll have the chance to rank your top three priorities from the list above. Plus, there will be an opportunity to provide your own suggestions for any and all of the areas.

Can’t attend? Keep an eye out for a virtual meeting on Thursday, July 20 and an online survey active through August.
