With spring in full swing, it’s time to say, “Out with the old.” Spring is the season of rebirth, so why not give new life to like-new or gently used items? In the spirit of spring cleaning, we’ve rounded up a few Lexington organizations that accept donated items, help locals in need + support community causes.

Large hauls

If you’ve got a lot to give, these organizations provide previously-owned goods to those in need at affordable prices.

  • WEKU accepts car donations.
  • ReStore offers furniture and appliance pickups.

Clothing + home goods

  • The Hope Center relies on donations of linens + pillows to provide a place to stay for individuals experiencing housing insecurities.
  • Lexington Rescue Mission is currently in need of men and women’s work boots, reading glasses, sweatshirts, and more.
  • Goodwill accepts clothing, furniture, and home goods for resale.
  • Kentucky Refugee Ministries accepts cooking + baking supplies — think pots, pans, and can openers — that are underused or can be reused.

Childcare

Furniture

  • Lexington Habitat for Humanity uses donated equipment + furniture to build homes, whether you have leftovers from a project you didn’t complete or supplies from a remodel. It will also pick up pre-approved car donations.

Technology

  • If you have old electronics + tech like laptops, TVs, scanners, or microwaves, Battle Axes collects them for a smashing good time in its rage room.

Bonus: Don’t have much to get rid of this year? The Kentucky Blood Center is always in need of blood if you are able to donate.
