With an ever increasing demand for housing, Lexington is experiencing something of a development boom. New construction plans feature everything from downtown apartments to park expansions and shopping centers.

Lexington’s historic East End will soon see a new development, set to bring more residential and commercial space to the area. After the Urban County Planning Commission recent approval, developers UCD Midland plan to erect two, five-story complexes on the site of the former Lexington Cut Stone & Marble Company — across the street from The MET.

This announcement is the latest step in a journey which began in April 2023 with the approval of a zoning change for the property, which stretches from the 200 block of Midland Avenue to the 600 block of Winchester Road.

Together, the new construction will feature 248 apartments + 270 parking spots. Additionally, these mixed-use buildings will offer plenty of retail space for ground-level shopping.

While the development’s retailers have yet to be confirmed, you can bet we’re already daydreaming about window shopping the new store fronts. What type of shops are you hoping will fill the new development? Let us know.
